What is the “Deg Bhapka Method” of extraction ?

Waanya's GULAB JAAL has been extracted using the the ancient deg bhapka method— the traditional way of extracting oil from flower petals through steaming and distillation —a process that is largely environment friendly . At the distillery, rose petals are separated from the fresh rose flowers. The rose petals and water are poured into copper pots called degs. The copper pot or deg then sealed using a mixture of clay and cotton. The water and rose petal filled deg is then exposed to fire and connected by a bamboo pipe (referred as Chonga) which ultimately collects the steam generated by the process in a copper receiver (Bhapka) and a water tank. The final extract collected in the Copper receiver/ Bhapka is pure rose water. This process is indigenous to Kannauj, India.

How does the rose water not go bad without any preservative ?

Pure Rose Water is Steam distilled. The process includes evaporation and condensation of distilled water along with rose petals. Pure Rose Water or any steam distilled extract hence is self preserving, it won't go bad. Much like Water itself. PURE ROSE WATER DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY PRESERVATIVE.

how to know if a particular rose water is pure ?

We love an aware consumer ! Pure Rose Water does not have an overwhelming, artificial feeling smell. Pure Rose water has a mild-strong yet pleasing fragrance. Very much like smelling a rose flower itself. Pure Rose Water does not contain any preservative. It is self preserving. Check the ingredients list and if you find any ingredient other than rose petals and distilled water, well.. it's usually not a good sign. Pure Rose Water is colourless like water. Not Pink! A good quality Rose water that has been manufactured keeping hygiene in mind, it is edible too.
